So, WTF is Kelly Says?
It all started, once upon a time, on a cold autumn day in Newquay when two girls didn’t want to surf the 2ft onshore mush. That was until someone pointed out that 11x world champion (and full-blown legend) Kelly Slater says you have to surf all kinds of waves (including the crappy ones) to improve. Not sure whether they were his exact words or not, the girls decided to film their mission of surfing all types of waves throughout the UK winter. At the end of it they had a load of footage and no idea what to do with it, so they put together Kelly Says Episode 1 and decided to share the stoke.
Who Are They?
2 UK surf chicks, with more stoke than sense. They don’t claim to be the best surfers in the world, or the best filmers, but they do both anyway and have a fricking awesome time doing it. Kelly Says are…
|Resides:||Even she's not sure|
|Training Ground:||Anywhere that’s onshore and crap|
|Favourite Wave:||Mawgan Porth & Perranuthnoe (with our favourite seal matey)|
|Favourite Trick:||Going over the falls when she’s too cold to stand up|
|Inspirations:||Kelly Slater, family, Alan Partridge|
|Special Powers:||Always manages to read the surf reports wrong or just doesn’t bother to look at them. Will manage to talk you into getting into the water only for you to find out it really is as crap as it looked from the beach.|
|In a Nutshell:||Hailing from the flat Fenlands of Lincolnshire, where the nearest surf break is the tropical destination of Skegness, Bristow learnt to surf when she moved to Spain 7years ago. Splitting her time between the Uk and random places around the world, Bristow will generally paddle out in anything…and usually ends up regretting it.|
|Nickname:||MacLegend / Close-out Queen|
|Training Ground:||The local pub|
|Favourite Wave:||Watergate Bay & Perranuthnoe|
|Favourite Trick:||Straight handers on close outs|
|Inspirations:||Sally Fitzgibbons and “that really good bald dude”|
|Special Powers:||Can torpedo a WKD blue faster than your alcoholic uncle.|
|In a Nutshell:||From the cold northern highlands of Scotland, this pint sized frother started surfing at uni. Notoriously the last one out of the water and difficult to understand a word she says when she’s had a bevvie, this girl has earnt her nickname as the Close Out Queen by charging no matter what. She can also be heard shouting “I’m not scared” in random bars across Newquay on nights out. Her wide collection of hats is her secret weapon.|
*MacLegend may or may not be Dannie’s real life surname.
